Getting Started

Start Services on arrival with Route closed (iPhone)

The iPhone app can start today's Service when you pull in, even with Route closed or the phone locked.

With the iPhone app update that adds it, the phone watches today's stops in the background and starts the Service when you arrive. It uses the same rules as Route: Geofence Arrival Check, Auto-start on Arrival, the arrival radius (bigger for big properties) and the dwell time.

  1. Install the new app build, open Route once and tap Yes when it asks about starting Services on arrival.
  2. iPhone asks about Location. Choose Change to Always Allow. If you picked Allow While Using App, open the iPhone's Settings > Pelican Bend > Location and choose Always.
  3. Drive to a stop. When you have stopped inside its circle for the dwell time (3 seconds), the Service starts and the on-site clock runs from that moment. A line goes on the Base feed.
  4. The next time you open Route, the Safety List slides up for that Service when Show Safety List is on (Settings > Safety Checks). Nothing to tick; tap X or let it fade out.

Settings (Settings > Geofencing)

  1. Background Arrival (iPhone App): On by default. Off turns the background watching off for everyone.
  2. Stops Watched In The Background: how many of today's nearest open stops the phone watches at once (10; iPhone allows 20). The list moves along as you drive.
  3. Geofence Radius (25 m) plus, with Size Radius To Property on, the property's own size: big properties get a bigger circle, up to Largest Arrival Radius.
  4. Two stops close together (circles that overlap): Route asks which stop you are at.
  5. Starting a Service by hand while another one is running asks first and names the running one. Go ahead and the arrive and leave checks stay off for those Services until none is running. A note goes on the Service.

Leaving only counts when you are 25 m past the circle and driving (faster than a walk), and away from every Service still running, so walking the yard is never a departure. Finish <Name>? is asked once per leave and must be answered. Signing out everywhere or changing your password turns background arrival off until you open Route again.
